Hallet Cove Beach, Adelaide, South Australia

ADELAIDE, SA — July 22, 2025
A powerful cold front swept across South Australia Tuesday morning, bringing heavy wind gusts, bursts of rain, and reports of minor damage across Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued severe weather warnings overnight, with gusts reaching up to 110 km/h in coastal areas and scattered hail showers around Mount Lofty. Temperatures dipped sharply across the region, with city highs hovering around 13°C — nearly 3°C below average for this time of year.

Several power outages were reported in Glenelg and Norwood by midday. SES crews responded to multiple calls about fallen tree limbs and loose roofing panels. No major injuries have been reported so far.

“We’re asking residents to secure outdoor items, check for blocked gutters, and be cautious during commutes,” said SES spokesperson Tara McGrath. “Another system is already building and expected to push across the state late Wednesday.”

The second front, forecasted to carry more moisture, is expected to bring steady rain and colder air to the eastern states by Thursday. Victoria, New South Wales, and Tasmania are also under active watch, with snow possible in alpine regions and rough surf warnings along the coast.

What to Do Now:

  • Stay updated via the Bureau of Meteorology
  • Charge essential devices in case of local blackouts
  • Avoid parking under trees or loose structures
  • Pack layers and a rainproof bag if heading out
