Bureau of Meteorology forecasts sunny conditions and rising temperatures across the city, with heatwave warnings active for northern pastoral districts

Adelaide residents can expect a week of increasingly warm weather, with temperatures climbing steadily from Wednesday through to the weekend as summer settles firmly over South Australia’s capital.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a high of 29 degrees today under partly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of morning showers and predominantly southeasterly winds providing some relief from what promises to be a mild start to the day.

Thursday will see conditions shift to clear and sunny weather, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees. While the morning will start bright, there is a small chance of afternoon thunderstorms affecting the northern suburbs, driven by easterly to southeasterly winds. The warming trend continues into Friday, with temperatures peaking at 34 degrees under mostly sunny skies, providing a warm conclusion to the working week.

Weekend Brings Temperature Moderation

The weekend forecast indicates a welcome easing of conditions, with Saturday expected to reach 27 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Temperatures will dip further on Sunday to a maximum of 24 degrees, maintaining the partly cloudy pattern. Both days will see overnight minimums around 12 to 16 degrees, offering residents cooler evenings after the warmer midweek period.

Looking ahead to next week, Monday is forecast to reach 23 degrees with partly cloudy conditions, while Tuesday will see a return to warmer weather with sunny skies and temperatures climbing back to 29 degrees. Overnight minimums during this period will range from 11 to 15 degrees.

Statewide Conditions Vary Significantly

Across South Australia, weather patterns remain varied due to the state’s vast geography. A ridge of high pressure extending from a system over the Bight is influencing conditions, while the state’s northeast is experiencing raised dust conditions and isolated thunderstorms due to a low-pressure trough.

The Bureau has issued a heatwave warning for the North East Pastoral district that remains active from Tuesday through Friday, with temperatures in these remote regions expected to experience severe heat conditions. Residents and workers in affected areas are being urged to take precautions against extreme heat.

Strong wind warnings have also been issued for the Far West Coast, Upper West Coast, and Lower West Coast, with mariners and coastal communities advised to exercise caution as conditions may become hazardous.

As another ridge of high pressure approaches over the weekend, conditions are expected to stabilise across most regions, though isolated showers and thunderstorms may still affect the eastern and pastoral districts on Saturday. Temperatures across these regions are expected to remain near average.

Health and Safety Considerations

While Adelaide’s forecast temperatures remain well below extreme heat levels, authorities continue to remind residents about the importance of staying hydrated, applying sunscreen, and taking regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, particularly during outdoor activities.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises that people working outdoors should drink plenty of water throughout the day, apply sunscreen frequently, wear protective clothing that covers arms and legs, and take additional rest breaks in shaded areas.

For Adelaide residents, the upcoming week offers typical early summer conditions with warm but manageable temperatures, ideal for outdoor activities while remaining mindful of sun safety. Those planning outdoor events or activities should monitor updated forecasts as conditions can change, particularly with the possibility of afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday.
